Biography

Cordula Trantow is the daughter of composer and director Herbert Trantow und dancer Edith Kirchhoff.

Born and growing up in Berlin she studied acting with Marlise Ludwig.

In 1959 she was chosen by Bernhard Wicki to play in the main cast of his war drama DIE BRÜCKE.

Since then, Cordula Trantow has played a plethora of roles on film, tv and stage.

Her appearances on screen and television include JENSEITS DES RHEINS (André Cayatte), BEKENNTNISSE EINES MÖBLIERTEN HERRN (Franz Peter Wirth), DAS SCHLOSS (Rudolf Noelte), BABECK (Wolfgang Becker), VOR SONNENUNTERGANG (Oswald Döpke), UNSER WALTER (Peter Schubert), DIE RATTEN (Rudolf Noelte), KÄTHE KOLLWITZ (Herbert Ballmann), numerous episodes of DER ALTE, TATORT, DERRICK and EIN FALL FÜR ZWEI. She belonged to the running cast of BIS IN DIE SPITZEN, played in BELLA BLOCK (Thorsten Näter), SOKO LEIPZIG (Sebastian Vigg) STUBBE (Peter Kahane), 30 TAGE ANGST (Thorsten Näter), MIT GLANZ UND GLORIA (Dieter Wedel) t.b.c.

Cordula Trantow is also one of Germany's most prolific stage actresses, engaged at Theaters such as the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel München (eg as Cordelia in KING LEAR), the Württembergische Staatstheater Stuttgart (Irina in Chekov's THREE SISTERS, the Münchner Kammerspiele (eg as Molly in DER MARQUIS VON KEITH), the Renaissance-Theater Berlin (Nora in A DOLL'S HOUSE), the Freien Volksbühne Berlin (Frau John in THE RATS) and the Rheinisches Landestheater Neuss (title role in MISS JULIE).

Cordula Trantow learned directing from her husband Rudolf Noelte. In 1989 she wrote and directed the tv play THE VISIT, starring Judy Winter. From 1988-2006 she was director of Theatric Summer Festivals in Weilheim, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Southern Bavarian region.

Among her numerous works as director are THE DOVE, ROMEO AND JULIET, A SUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and THE WIZARD OF OZ.

In 2010 her production of DIE NADEL DER KLEOPATRA (CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE) played at the re-opened Schlosspark-Theater Berlin, starring Ingrid van Bergen and Cosma Shiva Hagen.

Ms. Trantow speaks English and Russian. She lives by the Starnberg Lake and has two sons from her marriage with Rudolf Noelte. In 2000 she was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit.
